SYNOPSIS

They can make you change your name, but never your heart…” With the illusion of becoming a better lawyer and giving a better life to his family, Santiago Puerta travels to Italy to get a major in criminology. It is hear that he meets Lina Santana, who will become the love of his life. Lina and Santiago move in together and during three years enjoy a happy loving relationship, upon terminating their studies they return to Colombia with plans of getting married, and sharing their happy news with their families. Unfortunately life has other plans for them. They arrive home to find that their marriage plans and the idea of spending their lives together seem impossible, because of the obstacles their families have put in front of them. On one hand Rogelio Santana, Lina’s high class father, will stop at nothing in order to prevent his daughter from marrying Santiago. On the other hand, there is Bernardo Puerta, Santiago’s father, has now become the accountant and trusted right hand of Richard Calero aka the ¨Kes¨, a dangerous mafia lord devoted to money-laundering. Upon discovering his family´s unfortunate situation, in hopes of finding a quick solution and hopefully achieving their longed for happiness, Santiago is forced to hide it all from Lina. While circumstantially and ironically, Santiago begins a plan to lead his family towards a “legal” path. He convinces his father to hand the "Kes" in to the authorities to dismantle his criminal network and to enter a witness protection program, Bernardo accepts willingly the idea of rebuilding his life next to Lorenza Mercado - the "Bandi", “Kes’”s ambitious and mistreated woman. The decision does not favor Santiago, who must in turn pay the price of sacrificing his relationship with Lina. Santiago makes this choice convinced and trusting that their love will survive through this storm. Things do not go as planned, and through they do successfully terminate and dismantle the “Kes’”s organization, he manages to scape alive, driven by the desire of revenge towards those who betrayed him. It is at this moment when Santiago must face the choice between continue with his family in hiding or risking his identity and his life for his love. Convinced that Lina will wait for him as long as necessary, Santiago decides to enter a witness protection program and assumes a new identity. The District attorney legally disappears both Santiago and his family by simulating during a trip to the States, their tragic death after being brutally attacked by crocodiles. Lina, while devastated by the news bonds even closer to her love, since deep in her heart she infers there´s something which she must soon discover. From this day on, Santiago becomes Estaban Bravo, a police agent. Regardless of the distance and difficulties, Santiago and Lina´s love becomes stronger and Lina has no other reason to live other than that of finding her love. In turn, Santiago doesn’t resist the conditions of the program or the idea of being far form his girlfriend so, he looks for her, violating all the agreements he made when he went in to the program. Finally, and thanks to Lina’s intuition, they manage to reunite, but now under the universe of a Criminal Investigation Lab, being forced to treat each other as strangers and to meet secretly. During these encounters In those meetings, Santiago confesses to her a part of what has been going on with his family and she understandingly decides to help. From that moment on, they start to investigate “the Kes’”s whereabouts, while stealing the fingerprints of a homeless man, the ¨Kes¨completely changed both his physic appearance and his name. The body of the murdered homeless ends up in Lina´s hands at the criminal investigation lab, and it is this which triggers their man hunt. This three characters all have a strong force which drives them blindly: the druglord, that of finding whomever betrayed him, Santiago and Lina that of capturing the reason why their hopes and happiness have been postponed.
