SYNOPSIS
Since their early childhood, despite of their vast social differences, Eduardo and Florencia developed a deep and sincere love for each other. As if the condemnation of their social differences were not enough, the past holds a threat which lies dormant for their fates. Florencia is the youngest of Alejandro Lagos’ five children. He is the proud breeder of throughbred horses and the heir to a vast region. Maria is the Lago´s estate housekeeper, and Eduardo her only son, a natural at horseback ridding is a loyal friend and accomplice in games and pranks of his inseparable Florencia. Florencia and Eduardo’s childhood has gone by without mishaps, they, and those who surround and love them the most, not being privy to the fact that their lives are the instrument through which an old grudge will start to be paid off. A sinister plan to avenge everything that may surround the Lagos surname begins on the day that Alejandro hires Paulina Riascos as his new assistant. Paulina, who comes highly recommended, is really Eusebio´s weapon and the means that he has carefully trained in order to destroy and take over from his half brother Alejandro Lagos, what he considers his. The friendship between Eduardo and Florencia has always seemed harmless to Alejandro Lagos, but his wife, influenced by Paulina insists in separating them. María is forced to see her son leave off to a boarding school in the capital. Florencia is left alone, under Maria’s care and at Paulina’s mercy. Paulina is now free to focus on her next goal: becoming Alejandro’s wife. With impeccable skill, Paulina asphyxiates Alejandro’s dying wife and blames Irene, their eldest daughter, who has a record of drug addiction for this tragedy. As he had carefully planned, Eusebio’s manipulating ability through his protégée reaches it’s climax two years later when Alejandro Lagos announces that he is going to marry her, clearly stating his feelings of gratitude and admiration for the person he considers to be the Lago´s family emotional pillar. It is true that there are lies that are told so well that it would be absurd not to believe them. All seems to be in agreement and satisfied with the decision, except for Maria, who, since Eduardo left, has gone downhill in her existence and has been subjected to relentless torment by the new lady of the house. While Eusebio and Paulina execute their terrible plan, Eduardo and Florencia grow up in distant worlds: she at the estate, while he thanks to a scholarship, is an undergraduate student in the US. The letters that were sent one another for years never arrived at their destiny, retained by María in their eagerness to impede a love that she considered impossible. The lack of news carries them to continue with their lives while at the same time trying to erase the memory of their childhood love. The day prior to Florencia’s wedding, Eduardo returns home to the Lagos’s estate distressed by the news of his mother’s delicate health. María, in her death bed decides to open up and tells him the truth about her cruel life and the tortures she was submitted to filling him up with pain and rage. Before passing away she hands him a small chest which locks within a great secret, the same one that when revealed will make her son Eduardo confront face to face with an unsuspected enemy. Convinced that Florencia and her family have done to both him and his mother an irreparable damage, Eduardo decides to hide his true identity in order to unmask so many horrors. It is in this way that he comes back into Florencia´s life with a new name, and since he had left as a child no one remembers his looks so he is not recognized. And it is precisely the look of this new mysterious stranger that haunts beautiful Florencia´s dreams awakening feelings she had dormant; feelings which don’t allow her to consummate her marriage. From then on, this marriage continues because her husband is Paulina’s accomplice in her scheme to take all of the Lagos’s assets. Eduardo’s precesence makes her uneasy … as if she could feel that this is the man she has loved from her early days. To Eduardo the rumors of Florencia´s unhappy marriage take him by surprise, and the possibility that she may still remember him fill him with joy. In her search for true love, Florencia will fatally face Eusebio Beltrán’s curse. Eduardo, in turn, will drown in a battle that will make him realize that revenge is dangerously close to what he thought justice was.
