For her, academic goals are not a priority, and for this reason, she is not an A student. Instead, she takes time off her school work to practice with her music group; which occasionally gets a gig or two. Catalina is also a leader in her sophomore class at school. She is a strong tempered girl who seems unbreakable, but who instead inside she is a soft, sensitive person, giving to those she loves. She tries to cooperate with those who need her, she is simple and humble in her manner but hates prejudice. She has learned that the fact that she goes to a high class high school does not make her any different from anyone else, and for this reason she is in constant battles with all who put her down for being poor. Catalina is proud of herself, of her family and of her background, and generally for her, rich people are not to be trusted. At first, when she meets Santiago, she will dislike him because of his stiff appearance. For her, Santiago is a rich boy who won’t mix with the rest, but who is also incredibly attractive. Catalina will not be able to deny her attraction towards Santiago; that she is jealous towards him and that between them an enormous chemistry started on the day they met.  Santiago will become for her into a passionate love through which she will learn many secrets of her own family.

Santiago is a twenty four year old “stud”.  This is the adjective that his students use to describe him the minute he arrived into class. He has come to replace old Matias, the schools music teacher who has recently passed away.  His looks will cause many of his students to have a crush on him.  He is a warm, noble human being, but comes across as rude because of his serious manner. He is seriously disturbed by indiscipline, and for this reason at first, he has problems with Catalina. Regardless of this, he can not deny that Catalina is extremely beautiful, and that he is strongly attracted towards her. When it comes to expressing his feelings in love, he is extremely shy. He is a believer that the best music is educated music, but this will change the moment when he begins to listen to the music that Catalina plays; that which his family calls “noise”. He believes blindly that Brenda, his mother, is the best woman in the world.  And, though he criticizes her proud and classist manner, he relieves that everything she does and says, it’s for his own good. He will have to deal with Daniela, his ex girlfriend.  Daniela is a woman of his social class, she is beautiful and well educated, with class, but she is filled with insecurities and with the desire of always showing off. He is not yet convinced Daniela is not the woman for him and for this reason, he will still lead her on.
