Runaway Love

SYNOPSIS

Julian Zamora is a humble book seller, that is going to get married the next day with Valentina Rincon. His lack of organization and poverty has prevented him from buying the wedding rings and that is why Julian uses the book he is writing to get a loan with the owner of the publishing house where he works. Very sceptic Don Carlo Vargas says that if he likes the book he will loan him the money to buy the rings. Don Carlos ends up reading several pages of the chapter that Julian has already written and he realializes that he has in his hands one of the great promises in latinamerican writers and he gives him the money. At the jewelry store where he is buying the wedding rings, Julian meets Luis Felipe Blanco and Laura Falcon who are also buying their wedding rings for their wedding. Laura is beautiful, rich and intelligent but a submissive woman that in two months will marry Luis Felipe Blanco one of the richest men in town, but she does it by the imposition of her father’s will Don Mariano Falcon, an obscure and evil man that has a debt with Luis Felipe’s father, Don Domingo Blanco. Now, Luis Felipe is a playboy, that has a love affair with Daniela, Laura’s sister; Laura being our main star. While Julian, Laura and Luis Felipe are chosing their wedding rings for their respective weddings, the Jewelry store, owned by Don Ulises Dominguez is robbed by a gang of armed robbers that, aided by one of the store clerks, manage to disconnect the security cameras so as to avoid leaving a trail. After they forced Don Ulises to open the safe, Israel, the gang leader obliges Luis Felipe to introduce the jewels that are in the glass stands so that they activate the security system, the video recording and that way they would confuse the authorities into thinking that Luis Felipe is the culprit, but he refuses and Israel shoots him. In the midst of this drama, Laura and Julian whom bearly know one another are forced to follow the gang leader’s instructions and the video tape records them while they hold a gun with no bullets that Israel gave them. After the recording has been completed, Julian and Laura are held hostage by the gang and they are taken to a warehouse where the criminals distribute they bounty. Both ignore that the robbers have killed the store owner with the weapon they were bearing during the recording of the video. That night while Valentina is waiting for Julian all dressed in her bride’s clothes at the Church’s door step and, while Laura’s parents are worried about her delay and her not answering the phone, the photos of both appear in all TV news channels with a price on their heads. The police has incriminated them using the video as evidence, besides the finger prints on the gun that killed the store owner and those found in the glass stands match their i.d. records and the testimony of Esmeralda Garcia, the sales clerk that was a complice to the robbers, declares that she saw when Julian ,the gang leader, wounded Luis Felipe Blanco and assesinated Don Ulises Dominguez. When they see their pictures on TV noone can believe it. Nor Julian’s mother, or Don Carlos the publishing house owner, nor the Julian’s bride, nor Laura’s or Luis Felipe’s parents. They think it is unbelievable that they were capable of so much. But their heads now have a price and from that moment on their lives change for ever. Since the robbers did manage to achieve their goal of confusing the authorities they set the two free and they call the police hot line to say that they spotted the couple. That is how their new vicissitude begins. During several months they run from the authorities, the private investigators, Don Mariano’s men, Luis Felipe’s pride that after awakening finds out about the romance that Laura and Julian were having and decides to sink them with the authorities by affirming that it was Julian who fired the gun that wounded him and killed Don Ulises. In other words, they face all kinds of enemies that they find along the way in their run through seven Colombian cities where they hide. Julian and Laura learn to tolerate one another and to love each other as they discover that nor Valentina nor Luis Felipe were worthy of their love. At the beginning they love each other in silence, then under the rain, wherever the night catches them, always in some clandestine place. And while they love each other and fight for their love in the middle of worries and calumnies, Julian tries to finish his novel the one that he sold to Don Carlos ignoring that Don Mario Falcon wants to steal the copyrights by publishing it under his name, as if he were the author. He is well recognized as a successful writer because he published “Los Relojes no lloran” (the clocks do not cry) twenty years ago and since then he has not published anything. And in reality he can not for a very simple reason. He did not write that novel; Los Relojes. It was Julian’s mom who wrote it, Doña Helena Zamora when she was working as a style corrector for Don Mariano’s publishing hourse. Now he needs Julian’s novel so that he is not uncovered as a phony and he will do anything possible to find the originals that Julian has written during his vissicitudes and would do anything to also return his daughter to Luis Felipe Blanco. That way he will manage to settle his debt with Luis Felipe’s father.
