When Lorena Morales fell in love with Miguel Ferrero, she never imagined that she would have to descend to hell and come up again in order to be by his side. Despite being rejected by her mother-in-law, Rufina de Ferrero, and the evident discomfort of the rest of the family, with the exception of Mateo, her father-in-law, Camila, her brother-in-law Gerardo’s wife, and Juan, another brother-in-law; her wedding takes place without major mishaps, however, destiny deals her a harsh blow: Miguel disappears during a pleasure trip on a boat, in the midst of a storm.
Nothing is ever heard of him and Mateo, Juan and Lorena’s efforts to find him are fruitless. Lorena feels that her world crumbles; even more so now, when she finds out she is pregnant. She will have a child by the man she loves and that man might never know it. If it weren’t for her sister, Mariela, and her husband, Julio, who encourage her to forge ahead, Lorena would probably have given up. In the meantime, in a city on the Caribbean coast, fishermen have found a dying man, without identification documents nor signs that would help with recognizing who he is. Doctor Silvia Rivero receives him at the Punta Canela Hospital and, without realizing it, starts to fall in love with this stranger who, once he awakens, cannot remember his name or how he got there.
Lorena’s pregnancy is declared to be high risk and, seeing that she did not have the opportunity to work and could not have access to her husband’s money since he has not been declared legally deceased for lack of evidence of his death, she has no recourse other than to go live with her in-laws’ family. There, she has to deal with Rufina’s indifference, her sister-in-law Rebeca’s disdain, and the discomfort of two of Rufina’s sons, Rodolfo and Gerardo, who see her as an intruder who wants to get her hands on Mateo’s inheritance. Lorena is actually not at all interested in the money or the last name, but Rufina does not want to run risks, considering that Miguel is Mateo’s only true son, a secret that nobody outside of the closest family members knows about.
When Miguel finally gets his memory back, a long time has gone by, during which time Lorena has gradually started giving Juan her affection, without suspecting that man’s true intentions: he is only interested in her fortune. Rufina realizes that Miguel’s return would only complicate things so she makes sure that he remains far away from the family, making him think that his wife has rebuilt her life with Juan and that they are now happy and even have a child.
Miguel and Lorena find themselves separated by force: she does not know that he is alive and he, doesn’t know that she is being deceived, but still dreams of the memories of her husband. But Silvia’s love for Miguel, Camila’s determination, her sister Mariela’s strength, and the tireless will of our stars, will overcome Rufina’s visceral hatred, Mateo’s death by the hand of his own wife and his step-son, Lorena being locked up in a rest home, an assassination attempt on her life, the kidnapping of her baby and the deceit of the rest of the Ferreros, to end up rejoining these two beings, whose love overcomes everything… even death.
