The House of two Palm Trees (La Casa de las dos Palmas)

SYNOPSIS

No one will ever forget the day the Herrero families caravan appeared over the mountains. It was the year of 1,899 and under the beating sun, sweat drenched horses and arrogant voices of the Herrero’s broke this silence forever.

Don Efraín Herreros, guided the caravan accompainied by his brothers Mariano and Juan. His wife Florentina, his sister in law Carlota and her two sons, Enrique and Efren followed behind.

Their long voyage ended when they arrived in this valley where nature showed her riches in fertile lands and abundant rivers. But this valley already had owners, a humble old man named Lucas Jimenez and his two grand sons.

Never the less, it was there where the dream of Efrain Herreros started to become a reality, for he had found the piece of land where he would build what he was destined for, the town of BALANDU.

While the months passed the uncontrolable passions irrupted in the heart of the Herrero’s family. The two sons rebelled against the dictatorship of their father and Juan, the youngest brother leaves the family home caousing a confrontation with his older brother Efrain. This confrontation leads him to join forces with the Jimenez family and search for fortune which will permit him to fulfill a promise made a moment of love.

While the town of BALANDU prospers in gigantic leaps, slowly the Jimenez land rights dissapear. Enrique Herreros filled by ideas of justice and liberty readies himself to fight in the thousand day war and so destroying the plans his father had laid out for him.

Juan, the brother who had abandoned Efrain Herreros and his family undertakes the mad adventure of searching every mountain in his quest for a nonexisting gold mine, while his future bride forces him to construct a great mansion with large halls for receptions as well as woodsy gardens and mirrors of all sizes.

So is born THE HOUSE OF THE TWO PALM TRESS (LA CASA DE LAS DOS PALMAS); the place where Juan Herreros hides, driven to madness by the rejection of the woman he loves, dammed by the excess of sensual liberties he and all the Herreros family have taken in Santa Maria de Los Robles.

In this house he dies, victim of a strange illness. His ghost roams the large halls, woodsy gardens and a mysterious bridge. In this house the main events of this epic and human story will take place. THE HOUSE OF THE TWO PALM TREES is the tale of three generations of men and women driven by their dreams, their love, their hate and their loneliness. Yet united by a curse which threatens the destiny of even those who have decided to turn their ilusions into reality, with a determination that is stronger than love and even death.
