From the successful team of Cafe con Aroma de Mujer (Coffee With A Woman’s Aroma) : script by Fernando Gaitán, Pepe Sánchez as the director, Guy Ecker in the lead role, together with the beautiful and talented Sonya Smith and over 40 leading Colombian actors, make up the production team and cast of Guajira, the new superproduction of RCN Televisión of Colombia. RCN takes up once again the task of producing a quality telenovela, filled with actractive characters and intense situations achieved in real scenarios of the beautiful region of La Guajira, located in the North of Colombia.
Sonia Arbeláez and Felipe Uribe are the best of friends. They have grown up together sharing life’s most special moments in each of their lives. In her last year of school, Sonia meets Helmut Edinberg, a prestigious Minning Ingeneer who being practically twice her age, posesses absolutely all the assets a woman looks for in a man. With her beauty, tenderness and the strenght of her youth, Sonia wins over Helmut’s heart, while Felipe starts discovering that what he has felt for Sonia is not really friendship, but love.
Helmut sees realized the two most important dreams of his life : marrying Sonia and leading the most important Coal proyect in Latin America. This challenge brings Helmut to discover a magical, unexpected and pasionate land : La Guajira. The technology and the know how of the coal mine will have to develop among the world of smugglers, the traditions of the Wayuu Indians, and even the extravagances of the marihuana dealers. The challenge for Helmut ends up being much bigger than what he expected.
As time goes by, Helmut lets himself become fasinated by the desert, by the wisper of the vallenata music, by the magic of the Wayuu Culture, without realizing that this fascination is drawing him away from his wife, more and more. Sonia, being used to the fast pace and the comfort of the city does not find herself comfortable in this strange and dangerous world that she can not figure out.
Felipe’s return means that Sonia can laugh and return once again to the youth she left behind when she followed Helmut. But his presence also brings into her life a sea of doubts and uncertainties. Maybe she should have never marrried an older man. Maybe she was not really in love but just infatuated. Maybe she could not then realize that she could only find true love by the side of the man who was her best friend.
Yes, Guajira is much more than a love story, it is the shock of two cultures, the encounter of technology together with the magic of a world where everything is yet to be discovered.
