Miracles of Love

SYNOPSIS

Miguel, the most shameless, flirtatious, womanizing scam of the territory, must run for his life when caught in doubles both by his wife and his mother in law. His wife has caught him being unfaithful on two occasions and his mother in law, the department Governor and a politician with a crooked history, is accusing him of embezzlement and threatening to kill him. Miguel, aware that his mother in law is no kidder and will not stop at mere threats, runs for his life. While escaping he ends up in a hot, religious small town named “Hornito” (small oven). At his arrival people from the town, who are expecting the new priest to arrive on that day, think he is father Emilio Luna, the awaited priest. He finds in this misunderstanding a perfect cover to hide and decides to go along with it and besides, if he does not do so, he would have a hard time explaining why the real priest is dead. The newly arrived Father Luna, who is really no father, and no saint at all, arrives to the town on the same day when a miraculous image of a crying virgin appears on a wall. Father Luna realizes that he is in the wrong place and decides to run, but before he has a chance to do so he happens to meet Milagros, widow of Love, the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, and so he decides to postpone his departure and prolongs his lie. Milagros, widow of Love, in a generous and heroic act as a mother, has decided to marry Vladimiro Peralta Jr., son of an old town politician by the same name. Her husband to be has promised Milagros he will give her the money she needs for her deaf – mute daughter to have the surgery she needs to recover her voice and hearing. To keep this promise, there must be a wedding! Milagros is aware that her daughter must be operated within a year, or it will be too late, and because of this, she is willing to sacrifice her happiness. She prays to the Virgin for a miracle to save herself from the sacrifice of this marriage. From the moment they meet, the attraction between Emilio and Milagros is mutual. Emilio can not explain his cassock, and Milagros believes she is sinning in the worst possible way by desiring a man of God. They live an impossible love, a love so impossible that Milagros is sure she is the reason for the Virgin’s tears. What both Emilio and Milagros ignore is that the crying Virgin is all a fake planned by the Peraltas and the corrupt Department Governor. They are planning to change the river’s course and this way make the rice crops die, the crop holders go bankrupt and force them to sell their lands at a loss. They will buy cheap land and then go on to sell the land at a profit to the state who is planning to construct a dam in the territory. THE MIRACLES OF LOVE is a telenovela which shows us that miracles do exist, since true miracles are such when a bad husband becomes a great husband, when a fake priest becomes the town’s hero, when corrupt politicians, at least for once in life get what they deserve, and when a widowed mother finds the happiness of loving both as a wife and mother.
