El Inútil
SYNOPSIS
On his thirtieth birthday Martín Martinez (JULIAN ARANGO) is confronted by his parents, to decide once and for all, what he wishes to do with his life and his answer is the same as always: “All I want to do is dance”, since Martin, ever since he was a child has only been interested in dancing: Porro, Merengue, Cumbia or Salsa. Dancing in front of an orchestra, embraced to a beautiful woman, elegant and passionate. His parents reply as always, that dancing is not a way of making a name or a living. After 30 years, 5 attempts of finishing a career, several businesses all failed, Martin is considered a good-for-nothing. Not only because of his incapacity to earn his own money but also because he is literally unable to do anything. Nothing except dancing embraced to a woman. This is the only thing he likes to do, since dancing was how he met Ruby (RUDY RODRIGUEZ) a teacher at the small town where his parents owned a ranch. She was ten years older and in her arms he found love. Suddenly one day, without any explanation, she left him. Martin is warned by his parents that from that moment on (his 30th birthday) he will have two months to leave the house and try to make a living just like any other person his age. He will have to leave empty handed since they will not give him a dime. To sort it out, Martin makes up a story about his weeding plans. But who will he marry? Martin replies he will introduce his fiancé to his parents during his birthday party. He really does not have a fiancé, however, after so may years of hopelessly longing for Ruby he is willing to marry the first woman that would make him feel the same way as she did, while dancing. He arranges a party, at the best Cinderella’s style, and invites all the single women he knows. Meantime, "Mirando Zapata" (VICTOR MALLARINO) a former golf caddy for Martin’s father, now owner of a prosperous shoe factory, has finally gathered the money to join the Club, not as a caddy any longer, but as a member instead, and he goes to Pacho Martinez, requesting him for a referral to the Club’s Board. Pacho denies Mirando any possibility to make his dream of joining the Club come true, and with a very contemptuous attitude recommends him to forget about such absurd ambition. Pacho Martinez will never allow for such a new rich like Mirando to sit next to him at the Club, nor to treat him on a first name basis. During this embarrassing meeting, Pacho’s secretary, mistakenly, writes down Mirando’s name in the guest list to Martín’s party and he shows up with Miranda, his oldest daughter, since his wife Rubiela is attending a shoe fair in Italy. During the party, and before Pacho notices Mirando’s presence in the Club, Martin finds Miranda and starts dancing with her . Miranda is everything Martín is not. She is totally the opposite. She attends dance school during the day and in the afternoon she helps out her father in the shoe factory. Miranda has experience and knowledge in accounting, marketing and design. Her dancing skill are very noticeable while dancing with Martin. The stay together all night long, dancing and the good-for–nothing remembers what dancing is good for. He kisses and hugs her. She is his arms and he falls in love again. Astonished he introduces her to his parents as his fiancé, the woman he wants to marry, but his parents are very busy kicking Mirando, the father of his newfound love, out of the Club. Miranda runs away and Martin feels like dying. Like in Cinderella, he will have to look for her desperately. And when he finds her and talks her into marrying him he will find out that her stepmother, who didn’t attend the party because she was out of town, is back and is no one else but Ruby, the same woman he had fallen in love with at 17 and who he still loves… What will happen deep down in his heart? The verdict is still in force. Within three months he will have to leave the house. The engagement takes place: He will marry Miranda. And, what will happen once everything is disclosed? When his father finds out Mirando will join the Club as his father in law ? What will happen when Mirando, who is an honest and working man, finds out that his son in law is in love with his wife? But, worst of all, what will happen once his condition of good-for –nothing comes out to the open making Mirando realize that he invested all his wealth in his daughter’s wedding with a disinherited good-for-nothing? Will Martin be able to get a job some day and make a living to provide for himself and for his wife? Will he make a living out dancing some day? Will his believe that women are willing to fall for a god-for–nothing- because what they really want is someone to dance with, come true? In the midst of these conflicts an in the best Colombian soap opera style, arises The Good-for–Nothing, a refreshing and fun story, full of music, color and good humor, filling the TV set with emotions and sweetness through very charismatic characters with whom the audience will definitely fall in love.
