Pilar Carrasco is crazy about her boss, Sergio Gaviria; he is a chaming lawyer who she is working for, as a bookkeeper, long time ago. After having a one-night passionate affair, Pilar thinks that she reached his ideal love with Sergio; only then, she realices yhat he is about to get married. She feels insulted, and decidesto keep away from him definitely.
Some weeks later, Pilar finds out that she is expecting a baby from Sergio, as a consequence of such passionate night, and makes the decisión to have her baby without telling him. Nine months later, Adelaida is born, but has a serious renal problem, and the only solution is a surgery that Pilar can´t afford.
Pilar approaches Sergio with no other reasonthan saving her daughter´s life, but she unfortunately meets his mother, Eugenia Herrera, the Narcotics Districs attoney, who thinks Pilar is an opportunist, and lies to her about her son´s location. She refuses to give Pilar any kindn of help.
With no solution in sight, Pilar looks for here best friend, Julián González, who is involved in the drug mules business; then, she decides to travel to Mexico loaded with cocaine capsules in her body. In the meantime, her sister Carmela is taking care of the bady; she is convinced that Pilar got a job out pof the country. When Pilar arrives in Mexico, she finds out that her fellow traveler has problems because her capsules burst out in her stomach; in the middle of this stresssful situation, trying to save her life, she confessesthat she is also a drug-mule, and is arrested.
When Pilar is serving her prison term in a Mexican prison, under threats of the criminal organization, she promises Julián not to reveal anything about the trip if he helps her daughter. At the same time, Carmela runs into Sergio in Colombia, and he take charge of his daugther, paying all the expenses of the surgery.
Some days later, Pilar hears that her daugther wasn operated; beliving that Julián kept his promise, she pleads guilty, and receives an eight-year sentece.
As time goes by, Sergio and his wife Cristina Cadena share their home with the bady, whom they renamued Paula. In the meantime, Pilar, who is adviced by her public defender, starts studying law to cut her sentence short. She also plans to use this knowledge to help other drug mules that have been cheated by drug dearles, but the most important objetive for her is to be able to get her daughter Adelaida back, regardless the difficult situations she might face to achieve that goal, and the fact that she does not have a clue about her daughter´s life.
When she is about to leave prison, Pilar hears that Alex Avendaño, a clever law student, payed attention to her calls for help, and he is very interested in working on penal-law cases. He will help her not only looking for Adelaida, but also solving the cases, that Pilar decides to take, about betrayed drug mules once she leves prison. As of that momento, a number of legal buttles will start, and these fights will b the core of this story, and will also be the cause that will cross Pillar´s and Sergio´s lives since she represents his competence in Cadena y Asociados law firm. On the other hand, the orgnization where Julián Works is planing on pushing Pilar aside definitely.

He is a poor, but daring man. He took advantage of knowing how to handle people to avoid poorness. That is why he ended up meeting Marleny, who involvers him in the drug-carrier world. This guy travels many times as a mule, but he finally panics; then, he meets Cosme, and begins recruiting women to travel to other countries as drug-hauling mules. When he know about pilar´s financial situation, he talks to her about his job, and ends up employing this woman, who has always coexisted with misfortune. cosme forces him to kill Pilar, but only threatens her; however, Carmela is keeping track of her also, and when Julián himself has to kill her, Marleny shows up to pull the trigger . Julián himself has on expanding his business due to his greed.

Cristina always rejected suitors who were after her money, so when sergio showed up in her life unselfishly, she belived to have found the ideal man. Years of loneliness suffered un her adolescence, in addiction to the abandonment of her mother pushed her to alcohol, problem that got acuter when she met her husband´s daughter. She takes charge of Adelaida (Whom she calls Paula) but does not feel real love for her. Pilar´s arrival leads her to consume cocaine, and ends up in a rehab Clinic. As she leaves this place, her love for her adopted daughter will be genuine. Since her child needs a new kidney to survive, this situation is ideal to create a true blood tie.
Law student of the national University, she was gradually promoted in the legal field until she became the District Attorney in the Narcotics Deparmet. Sergio, her son, was born out of a relationship she had with a teacher. She overprotected his son all her life; when he got engaged with cristina Cadena, she felt that her job had been donde; nevertheless, she know through Pilar about the existence of her granddaughter Adelaida, opening new doors of success for her son, and starting to feel a great love for her granddaughter.

In prison, she loses track of her daughter, and stars studying law, advised by Erika Sandoval, her public defender. She contacts Alexander Avendaño, a law student, and ask him to help her not only to prepare the way to find her daughter once she returns to Colombia, but also to assist her in her fight helping drug-hauling mules that are victims of drug dearles.
