FERNANDO GAITÁN WILL RECEIVE AN IMPORTANT RECOGNITION AT THE 2012 NATPE TELEVISION INDUSTRY CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION

FOR THE FIRST TIME A LATIN AMERICAN RECEIVES THIS IMPORTANT AWARD Fernando Gaitán, Product Vice-president at Canal RCN, will be awarded for outstanding achievement in television with the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award next January 24th, 2012 at the NATPE Television industry conference & exhibition (main forum for the sale of television products, like musicals, contests, series, and telenovelas, which will be celebrated during January 23rd to the 25th). This is the first time a Latin American receives this important recognition that is almost always awarded to Americans, along with other very important exponents of the television industry in the world. Gaitán has been the creator of such important productions that have crossed borders, like Yo soy Betty, la fea, a telenovela that was adapted in more than 21 countries, including the United States, Russia, China, India, Spain, Germany, and Mexico; that won two Golden Globes, an Emmy, and was the first Latin American production to reach the prime time audiences of North America. Also, he has been the producer of other great hits on the small screen, likeCafé con Aroma de Mujer, and Hasta que la Plata nos Separe. He has also been behind great production likeLa Pola, Rosario Tijeras, El Man es Germán, Amor Sincero, El Joe la Leyenda, and A Corazón Abierto seasons I and II, the adaptation of the successful American series Grey’s Anatomy. The Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards were created as homage to Brandon Tartikoff, one of the most important programmers in the history of television. These awards are given to a select group of professionals that show passion, leadership, independence, and an extraordinary vision in the creation process of television programming. Our 2012 awards winners have lived, worked, and traveled throughout the planet. Their common interest and reason for which we have chosen them is their great passion for excellence in TV programming. Cecile, Fernando, Dennis, and Matthew love what they do and we are happy to honor name in Brandon’s name, said Rick Feldman, president and CEO of NATPE, when announcing the winners. The Brandon Tartikoff awards for achievement pay homage to Brandon Tartikoff, one of the best programmers in the history of TV. Along with Gaitán, other important executives from the international television world will receive this important award. They are: Cecile Frot-Coutaz, from Fremantle Media North America and Executive Producer of American Idol, the musical reality that has received the most nominations to the Emmys. Dennis Swanson, President of Broadcasting Operation of FOX Television Stations, who has been in charge of some of the most influential programming developments in television in the last 30 years. As Vice-president and General Manager of the local network Chicago WLS-TV, the executive gave Oprah Winfrey her first talk show. Then, as President of ABC Sports, she convinced the International Olympic Committee of alternating the summer and winter games every two years. She also led the WNBC network of New York to obtain excellent results in rating as its President and General Manager, to later become Executive Vice-president and CEO of Viacom Television Stations. Matthew Weiner, creator and Executive Producer of AMC’s famous Mad Men drama, which will launch its fifth season in March 2012. Mad Med has taken four consecutive Emmys home as Best Drama, three consecutive Golden Globes as best Drama for Television, and a Peabody Award, among many others. Before Mad Men, Wiener was executive producer of another enormous Emmy winner, The Sopranos. Wiener also stood out as a script writer for other series, including, The Naked Truth, Becker, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, and the independent movie ‘What Do You Do All Day?’, where she also took the roll as director. The celebration cocktail will take place on January 24th during the 2012 NATPE Market & Conference, at a reception held by NBCU and B&C/Multi at the Fontainebleau Resort in Miami.
